How We Build

For a standard rectangular garden room of around 15m², you’re looking at approximately 8 weeks from when we arrive on site to completion. More bespoke shapes — an angled design, L-shaped room, or something more architectural — typically take around 10 weeks on site. This is the build phase; the design consultation and quotation process happen before this and we’ll always be clear on anticipated timescales from the very start.

It’s designed to be smooth and stress-free from start to finish. You get in touch — by calling 01926 450060 or via our website contact form — and we arrange a free design consultation and site visit. We come to your property, see the space, take measurements, and listen to exactly what you want. We then produce a fully itemised quote with no vague bundling or hidden costs, and go back and forth with you as many times as needed until everything feels right. You sign the contract and pay 25% to secure your slot. A further 25% is due four weeks before we start. The build begins; you pay 40% at the halfway point. On completion, you walk through the finished room and, when you’re happy, the final 10% is due.

No — we just need safe access to your garden during working hours (Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm). You’ll be kept fully informed throughout the build, and you’re always welcome to check in at any point. Most of our customers love watching it take shape. At the end of every working day, your garden is left tidy and secure — you won’t come home to a mess.

Yes — and this is something we take seriously at the design stage, not as an afterthought. Every DPM garden room is fully insulated: 50mm PIR insulation in the walls and 100mm in the floor and ceiling, with the whole structure wrapped in a breathable waterproof membrane. Combined with double-glazed windows and doors, the room holds heat well and stays genuinely comfortable all year round. Many of our customers use their rooms as daily workspaces right through the coldest months.

The most popular choice with our customers is an air conditioning unit — highly efficient for both winter heating and summer cooling, and increasingly the go-to option for anyone working from home year-round. Electric radiators are a solid, controllable alternative. We work with a trusted local company who can supply and install air conditioning as part of your build, so heating is sorted alongside everything else. We’ll talk through the right approach based on how often you’ll use the room and what for.

Not a great deal. The main things are keeping gutters and the roof clear of leaves and debris, making sure the room is adequately heated and ventilated during regular use, and keeping an eye on external finishes for any signs of wear. Composite cladding — the most popular choice with our customers — is very low-maintenance by nature and doesn’t require periodic treatment. If you’ve chosen timber cladding, an occasional inspection and re-treatment will keep it looking great for years.

Our structural guarantee covers the main structural elements of your garden room — the roof, external walls and floor — against significant defects in materials or workmanship for 10 years from the date of completion. It doesn’t cover fixtures and fittings such as cladding, the EPDM rubber roof membrane, windows, doors, locks or electrical components (though these may carry their own manufacturer’s warranties, which we’ll pass on to you). It also excludes normal wear and tear, natural weathering, extreme weather damage, and any alterations made without our prior written approval. We’ll walk you through all of this clearly when you sign.

Yes — and it’s something we genuinely enjoy. We’ve built triangular rooms designed to fit into awkward garden corners, L-shaped layouts that work around existing features, and rooms with angled facades that make a real architectural statement. If your garden has an unusual shape or you want something more distinctive than a simple rectangle, we’ll find a way to make it work. Our threaded metal rod foundation system also means we can position the base to work around tree root systems without damaging them.

Absolutely. We’ve built plenty of buildings that combine a beautifully finished garden room with a practical storage section alongside it — a garden office at one end and space for garden equipment at the other, or a gym next to a utility store. We’ll design something that works perfectly for both uses without compromising either.

Not a problem. If the site needs levelling before the build can begin, we’ll identify this during your free site visit and include the cost of any groundwork in your quote — so it’s all factored in before you commit, and there are no surprises once the build starts.

There’s a wide range to choose from. Composite cladding is our most popular option — low-maintenance, weather-resistant, and available in a huge variety of colours and profiles from suppliers including Ecoscape, Envirobuild and Deckz Fortiz. Earthy tones like spiced oak and slate grey are particularly popular right now, sitting beautifully in a garden setting. Timber cladding is a great choice for a more traditional or natural aesthetic. If you’ve found a cladding product or supplier you love, we’re happy to work with your choice.

We can supply and fit UPVC or aluminium glazing — bi-fold doors, French doors, large fixed windows, sliding doors and more — in a range of colours to complement your home and garden. The glazing is one of the most important design decisions, shaping how the room feels and how it connects with the outdoors. We’ll guide you through the options based on how you’ll use the space, which direction it faces, and what suits your budget.

Yes — and we’d always recommend it for anyone working from home. We work with a local specialist who can install a WiFi access point or ethernet connection in your garden room, giving you a fast, reliable connection that won’t drop out the way a domestic WiFi signal sometimes does across a garden. This is arranged alongside your build and added to your quote.

Absolutely. This is one of the areas where a fully bespoke build comes into its own. We can incorporate WiFi-controlled lighting and heating, ceiling-mounted speakers, and other smart home features — all installed neatly as part of the build, with no visible cables or retrofit additions. If you want to warm your garden room from your phone before you’ve even stepped outside in the morning, we can make that happen. Just tell us at the design stage.
